Warning for MANMAT customers
Nowadays, the company called „HOWLING DOG ALASKA – Ivana Nolke“ started engaging in unfair competition against „MANMAT“ company.
Mrs Ivana Nolke was a sales representative of MANMAT products in the United States of America. Gradually, she started presenting herself as the World´s main developer (according to her opinion). About two years ago she started offering counterfeit harnesses with Asian origin under the „HOWLING DOG“ trademark. She even used our design that we developed and have been using for over 20 years for „MANMAT“ products. She replaced letters „MM“ with letters „HD“. Since we started warning our customers, she even took the next step. She registered the trademark „MANMAT“ in the United States. I am the author and the owner of „MANMAT“ trademark. It has been registered in the European Union since 1997. On this basis, she is trying to remove all facebook profiles and links to „MANMAT“ in the United States. At the same time she is approaching our customers and offering them her products. Those products have nothing in common with our „MANMAT“ company except that they are copies of our products.
All harnesses and other equipment offered at our homepage were developed, designed and produced by our „MANMAT“ company, in Police nad Metují, in the Czech Republic. The material with the „MM“ design is the result of our close cooperation with our Czech parter companies.
The „LONG DISTANCE“ harness was developed in close cooperation with Mr Jeff King. It is a modification of our „GUARD“ harness. Mr Jeff King suggested adjustment (strenghtening) of the padding around the neck. The actual realization of this part, the structure and composition of the material, is exclusively our own design. Nowadays, we are working on developing of new harnesses and other equipment together with the Czech and foreign leading mushers. At the same time, we are grateful for any suggestion for improvement from both mushers and our sales representatives and dealers.
In today's world, the meaning of fairness and fair competition seems to be slowly disappearing. It is considered normal to alienate registered and established trademark with tradition and world market. There will always be some legal loophole and a lawyer willing to arrange it. However, I think that, especially among mushers and animal lovers we can still find enough people who do not consider this as normal. We have 30 years of hard work, tradition and quality behind us.

Back on Track
In 2008, Katy Meier was leading the Finnmarkslopet 500 race as she headed out of the last checkpoint towards the finish line. With two previous second place finishes in prior years, she thought it was now or never. Unfortunately, the weather came to bare as a force, and being the lead driver, she had to break trail while the other competitors closed ground. With only 40 kilometers left in the race, a strong driver from the eastern Finnmark region caught up to her. He paused to give her a hug and apologized for passing her as he drove on to the finish line, leaving Katy to yet another second place.
After the race, she was interviewed at the finish line. Her team looked well and she was impressed with her dogs, especially after such hard trailbreaking work to finish so strong. Yet, it was a bittersweet taste, since it was to be her last Finnmarkslopet, the dogs were being sold off, and it was not the victory she hoped to end her racing career on.
Things don’t always go as planned, both good and bad. A year later Katy was back at the race as a spectator. After following the race from the sidelines, she came to the only logical conclusion possible, that she had to rebuild her kennel and race again! Together with her partner, Jorg Bungard, they created a long term plan, and started to put it in motion. Later that spring, the kennel in Slagnas, Sweden was refurbished, and 24 puppies were brought in to call it home, of which 14 were kept for her team. This would truly be from scratch, as there were no yearlings, no leaders, and none of the pups were from her own bloodlines. This was an interesting development, and gave Katy the chance to truly start from zero.
The Comeback! Katy drove Troms Quest 2011 with her team. No longer puppies, but young dogs, they responded to the competition with a satisfying 5th place. During the same season, her partner Jorg, drove his team to an impressive 3rd place finish at the Pasvik Trail. All of this work, the training, and the team building, combined with the race experience point towards one moment, 10 March 2012. This is the moment she awaits, when the seemingly eternal last second before starting in downtown Alta arrives, and she begins the quest to fulfill her Finnmarkslopet dreams. When asked about her ambitions, she is quite clear, stating “ I’m not coming for a camping trip, I will compete and I believe that my team can compete. It will be exciting to see if they can handle the mental challenges of a 500km race.”
Today, this lovely Swede has everything under control. Fall training is going as planned, and she is highly motivated. To describe her feelings about this endeavor she quotes the Tour de France king, Lance Armstrong. “ I show up prepared, I show up motivated, and I show up because I love it,” as she states the same applies to her, with a gleam in her eye and a determined look on her face. We believe that it will!

SIBERIAN RACE HARNESS
This harness is manufactured by Manmat and is the hound harness style. Jana Henychova has been helping to develop this style of harness for broad chested Siberian Huskies for long distance races or intense workouts. This harness is designed to reduce the loss of hair around the neck, and areas that come into contact with the harness. This harness has two parallel straps down the front of the chest which provide better traction for the harness on the dog, reducing the amount of rotation or tortion of the harness that is possible when in use. It has softer, smoother material on the straps that provide padding to improve the fit of the harness and comfort level for the dog.

The dog T-Shirt may be used as a fashion statement by a dog pulling a scooter or even a rollerblader in Southern California, but it is designed for practical use to eliminate or greatly reduce harness rub on extra sensitive dogs. The racing coat is in the development and testing phase, and is one of the new and exciting products we will soon be offering to the mushing world!
The Czech musher can finally release his happyness.
Since he won in 2009, Radek has been each time close to win again. He was runner-up in 2010 and was leading the race in 2011, before he failed in the final stage. Finally in 2012, he becomes the first double winner of La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc after a race he controlled from the first day, winning 5 of the 9 stages. It's a huge happiness for the Czech who never stopped thinking about last year.
"It's only when I crossed the finish line that I was really sure to win the race. I didn't want to believe it before. I can't realise that I have won the race two times." he declared on the finish line.
The running champion Milos Gonda from Slovakia took the second place. He hasen't managed to be at the level he was last year. Despite a very steady race and one stage victory."
Jean-Philippe Pontier is the stronger musher on this end of the race of La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc 2012. He has never won any stage in La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc since his first entry in 2006 and this year he has won the last two stages. He has been 15 minutes faster than Gonda today, but had 30 minutes to get back to pass the Slovak. After he was third in 2011, he confirms his team potential and has shown strategic qualities and a real professionnal hability to stay calm and believe in his plan. He has clearly jumped a step up this season. He takes the third place for the second year in a row. He has prooved today that you can be very competitve on La Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont Blanc with a team of real long distance alaskan huskies.
